THE SIMPLE RING STORY
I’m Zyad, one of the co-founders here at The Simple Ring Co. As someone who was always quite active and on the go, my fingers would naturally swell, creating a grasp from my wedding band that became too restrictive to wear. Everyday I would put on my ring in the morning before work and by mid-afternoon it was off. I ended up losing rings that way. Then came the idea of getting a slightly larger size to compensate for my hand’s need for fluidity. That created a different problem as the tedium of keeping a slightly larger band from slipping off unintentionally became a conscious focus. We all work with our hands, so I needed a ring that would stay on and feel as comfortable as wearing a friendly pair of shoes. But after years of not finding that, even with comfort fit rings, I stopped wearing my wedding band except for formal occasions.
Then in 2012 I began a design job at a national jewelry brand. That’s when I realized that there was an opportunity here to design a ring with superior fit and feel for “ring sensitive” people like me. I started by studying how skin works. How it moves and swells, its specific dynamic around the fingers and joints.
I discovered for myself that a circle is completely the wrong shape for rings. Without going into the boring technical details of biometrics, let’s just say skin acts more like a fluid when it moves. So, I designed a ring to allow skin to have the room to move and collect within the soft square corners while maintaining consistent contact with the skin. Consider that for a circular ring to allow skin to move freely under it, the ring would have to be much larger than a conventional fit. If a ring is too large it has less surface area contact with the skin and tends to fall off too easily.
The solution was counterintuitive, the best shape for a ring it turns out, is The Simple Ring proprietary soft square shape. Naturally, I didn’t invent the square ring, they’ve been around as a style alternative for decades as a form of art. However, tweak that art in just the right way and it isn’t just about looks anymore! It actually works to not bump and pinch the other fingers during movement. It was the simplest solution to the ring squeeze that challenged me and countless others. So in 2017 a couple of partners and I formed The Simple Ring Company.

SOFT SQUARE SIZING
Simple Ring sizes are a little different from standard circular ring sizes. Because of the soft square profile, a Simple Ring has the sensation of fitting slightly more loosely than a circular ring of the same size. A well fit Simple Ring should slip on easily and stay in contact with all sides of your finger. Ideally, with an ideal fit there should be no forceful pushing and squeezing the ring on. However, each person has their preference for fit and feel. When sized correctly you shouldn’t have to struggle and pull harshly to take it off.
HOW SIZING WORKS
The Simple Ring size is based on the diameter of the imaginary inscribed circle within the shank. The Simple Ring size numbers are very literally the millimeter measurement of the imaginary inscribed circle. Our standard sizing measures from 14 to 25 with half sizes in between.
The superior fit and feel is attributed to the shank’s soft square profile resulting in a fit that feels larger than a standard circular ring of equivalent diameter. Using The Simple Ring fit kit will take the guesswork out of sizing your Simple Ring. Like any conventional ring fitting, any shank thicker than 5 mm will likely fit and feel tighter, so it’s suggested to order a half to a full size larger than sized. For example, if you find your ring size to be a 19 and you’re interested in a Simple Ring with a 7 mm shank, then it is suggested to order it in a size 19.5 or 20.
